NEW! Biliteracy Trajectories: Tracking Growth Through Formative Assessment
Tracking students' progress in biliteracy can be challenging, but it is essential to use a holistic approach that reflects a multilingual perspective in ensuring that students are becoming biliterate and are meeting the goals of dual language programs. This two-day virtual institute will explore biliteracy trajectories as a framework for monitoring and supporting students' literacy development in each program language.
Through a detailed comparison of monoliteracy and biliteracy growth paths, participants will understand how formative assessment and data-driven instruction play critical roles in fostering biliteracy. The session will feature a variety of authentic examples of assessments and demonstrate how to use them to document student growth in language development and academic achievement and inform short- and long-term instructional decisions.
Participants will leave with practical strategies to empower students, support biliteracy growth, and engage families and communities in creating a system of accountability.
Participants will:
- Distinguish between monoliteracy and biliteracy developmental trajectories
- Apply formative assessment strategies to monitor and support biliteracy growth
- Identify classroom practices that document student growth in language development and academic achievement
Target Audience:This session is ideal for teachers, school leaders, and program administrators working in dual language and biliteracy programs, particularly those focused on language development and formative assessment.
