Visual Storytelling: Creating Narrative in Abstract and Figurative Art:
Story isn’t limited to figures and faces. Whether you work abstractly, figuratively, or somewhere in between, this engaging mini-workshop explores how to create powerful visual narratives in your artwork.
In this 3-hour session, you’ll learn how to communicate emotion, memory, and meaning through visual choices—composition, gesture, symbolism, texture, and more. Through prompts, demos, and guided exercises, you’ll develop a concept and begin a narrative artwork that reflects your unique voice.
This workshop is designed for artists working in any style. We’ll look at examples from both abstract and representational art to discover how stories can be told subtly or boldly, literally or metaphorically.
You’ll leave with:
- A clear concept for a narrative work (abstract, figurative, or hybrid).
- Thumbnail studies and a strong beginning on a finished piece.
- Tools to develop mood, symbolism, and meaning in your future work.
Bring your preferred materials and your curiosity—your story can take any shape.
