The New Mexico History Museum invites the public to a free celebration marking five years of rehabilitation and restorations of the Palace of the Governors in historic downtownSanta Fe,New Mexico. The all-day event features the debut of new exhibits, cultural music and dance performances, and interactive experiences. Guests will enjoy live demonstrations by Native American artists and guided tours led by Museum and Friends of History docents.
On view are newly restored murals by Carl Lotave, originally painted in 1910 and depicting the Puyé archaeological site located on Santa Clara Pueblo Reservation land near the city of Española.
On public exhibit:
- Palace Through Time – An exhibition using 3D printed models, archaeological evidence, and historical documents to uncover 400 years of transformations, and revealing this National Historic Landmark as a structure, site, setting, and symbol.
- The Art of Peter Aschwanden – Peter Aschwanden’s work truly embodies the freewheeling spirit of the 1960s. A New Mexico-based artist and illustrator, his work was hidden in plain sight—on the pages of classic Volkswagen car repair manuals.
- Reflections on History – Historical photographs and mirrors create an immersive experience in which visitors view their own reflections alongside those of diverse New Mexicans from the past. Braille and tactile elements ensure accessibility for blind and low-vision visitors. People of all backgrounds see themselves integrated into the story of history.
