Discover the history and charm of this cherished Colonial art form, which flourished in New England during the late 18th century. Under the guidance of guest instructor Peggy Allen, an experienced Early American Interpreter and Theorem artist, participants will recreate an 8x10" portrait of a Distelfink bird—a Pennsylvania German symbol of good fortune and happiness.
Using oil paints, cotton velveteen, and pre-cut stencils, you’ll learn the traditional techniques of theorem painting step by step. No prior experience is necessary, and all supplies are provided. The class includes a short practice session, an overview of the historical context, and a display of Theorem Paintings by various artists for inspiration. Participants will leave with their own completed piece of Early American artistry to take home.
The cost for this workshop is $50/BHC Members and $60/Non-Members.
