Check-In/Registration: 8:45am – 9:15am
Entry Fee for pre-registered players: $30
Late Entry (no pre-registration): $10 extra
$10 off entry fee for players playing in first CFC event

Chess Federation of Canada (CFC):
All players must be a member of the CFC or have paid a CFC Tournament Fee (via CFC website here
1) CFC Annual Membership (NB) - includes a subscription to the Canadian Chess News magazine (PDF Format) and eligibility for any CFC rated events for one year: Adult - $41, Junior (U20) - $28
2) CFC Tournament Fee (NB) - allows entry to this one CFC tournament: Adult - $16, Junior (U20) - $8
3) CFC Membership Rates and Tournament Fees for other provinces
Format: 4 Round Swiss with two sections: Open and Under 1700*
Schedule (approximate): 9:30am, 11:30am, 2:30pm, 4:30pm
*Sections will be combined if either has fewer than 8 players; accelerated pairings may be used at tournament director’s discretion if a section has 20 or more players.
Time Control: 45 minutes + 15 second increment
Prize Fund: Cash prizes based on entries. Winner of Open section is the 2024 New Brunswick Tornado Champion, and will have their name engraved on the trophy. Tie-break for the trophy will be as follows:
1. Direct Encounter
2. Sonneborn-Berger
3. Most Wins
4. Most Blacks
Electronics Policy: While a player’s games are ongoing, any electronics they have with them (i.e. cellphones) should be turned off or on silent mode and visible on the table. Spectators should also have electronics stowed away while in the playing hall. Exceptions may be made upon discussion with the tournament director.
Recording Games: As this is a regular rated CFC tournament, players are required to record their games. Pens and scoresheets will be provided for this purpose. Players will no longer be required to record moves if the time on their clock falls below 5 minutes.
