About this Event

This course aims to assist those who are experiencing or have experienced immigration.

We will look at some of the emotional difficulties that you might feel, being far away from your country of birth and upbringing and will focus on:

  • Looking at some of the vocabulary of mental health to enable participants to express what they experience.
  • Understanding and managing anxiety.
  • Exploring ways of thinking that promotes well-being, hope and connection with others

If you are an asylum seeker, refugee, a recent or long-term immigrant, this course is designed to give you some tools for living in a positive, hopeful way.

We will introduce the concept of recovery and the themes of connection, hope, identity, meaning and empowerment (CHIME).

This course is suitable for students with a B1 (lower intermediate) or above level of English.

The course is free of charge and is available to people that are over 18 and who live or work in Mid-Essex.

We ask all students to enrol with the Mid-Essex Recovery College prior to attending their first course. New students will be emailed a link to complete the enrolment form.

The Mid-Essex Recovery College will provide a safe space for people to learn new skills, expand on existing ones, and attend courses developed to support mental health recovery. COURSES ARE THEREFORE NOT INTENDED TO BE ACCREDITED, however certificates are provided on completion.

Co-production is a core feature of recovery college ethos. Our courses are all co-produced by experts by experience (individuals with lived experience of mental health), as well as individuals with professional experience of working for mental health services
