Throwing larger pots with more clay poses new challenges.
Our Advanced I throwers course is designed for potters who have undertaken our 6-week beginners course had some extra practice and are confident at centring and knuckling up. It is also suitable for potters stuck in a throwing rut.
We’ll throw up to 6lb clay – enough to make a gorgeous fruit bowl or a houseplant pot.
In week 1 we take a look at the challenges of centring larger pieces of clay and using helpful techniques to maintain control and get height without collapsing. We’ll be wedging our clay and cutting pots in half to recognise any areas for improvement and take a closer look at our walls.
In week 2 the type of clay that you use is more important as you increase the weight. You’ll chose your clay and throw your pot.
In week 3 you’ll carry out any required turning or carving along with slip / underglaze decoration.
This course has an optional 4th week (additional £20) depending on how you want to decorate/glaze your pot.
Unlimited clay and slip for decoration.
