About this Event
The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) State Office of Rural Health, Nevada Rural Hospital Partners (NRHP), and the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV invite you to join us for the 2025 National Rural Health Day Event!
What is National Rural Health Day?
National Rural Health Day (NRHD) celebrates the dedication of rural healthcare providers, State Offices of Rural Health, and other stakeholders in tackling the unique healthcare challenges faced by rural communities. This year, the spotlight is on the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) and its significant role in supporting local rural physicians.
2025 Community Star Recipient
We are proud to recognize Dr. Tedd McDonald as a star in our community—not simply for his impressive career as an Obstetrics/Gynecology specialist, but for his profound impact on public health across rural Nevada.
Dr. McDonald graduated from the University of Nevada School of Medicine in 1998 and brings over 27 years of diverse medical experience to his roles. As Fallon’s County Health Officer, he has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to ensuring quality healthcare access in underserved regions. His leadership was particularly vital during the COVID-19 pandemic, which posed unique challenges for Nevada’s rural communities—areas marked by vast distances, limited infrastructure, and stretched resources.
Recognizing the urgent need for a more resilient healthcare system, Dr. McDonald played a central role in establishing the Central Nevada Health District, a monumental achievement that now serves Churchill, Eureka, Mineral, and Pershing Counties. His initiative not only strengthened the pandemic response but also laid the groundwork for long-term improvements in community health.
Beyond crisis response, Dr. McDonald is shaping the future of rural medicine. He is currently leading efforts to launch a Rural Training Track residency program in Fallon, designed to train and retain medical professionals in rural settings. With its first cohort expected in 2026, this program is a visionary step toward sustainable healthcare solutions for small communities.
Dr. McDonald’s strategic foresight, unwavering dedication, and passion for community well-being make him an exemplary model of public service. His work is not just about medicine—it’s about creating a healthier, more connected future for Nevada’s rural residents.
