Horror, Humour & The Hand of Glory
A folk horror compendium with authors Bob Fischer & Bob Beagrie.

The Folklore Of Freebrough Hill

In a shaggy dog tale spanning 12,000 years of history, writer Bob Fischer takes a dream-like journey through the folklore attached to Freebrough Hill, a curious peak located beside the A171 moorland road to Whitby. Travelling from the last Ice Age to present-day North Yorkshire, Bob weaves a magical tale of Vikings, Romans, giants, demons and even the sleeping knights of the legendary King Arthur.

The Hand of Glory: a biography

Bob Beagrie will give a dramatic performance of extracts from his new collection of prose poems 'The Hand of Glory: a biography' (Yaffle Press 2025), describing the exploits of the infamous, supposedly magical artefact The Hand of Glory currently displayed in Whitby Museum. The collection has been described as “...a real roller coaster of a read full of fireworks - lyrical, rhythmical and bursting with imagery.

'The Hand of Glory is a fable for our times.' Ann Caldwell
and "The Hand of Glory is a fascinating cavalcade of dark humour and social observation...” Ville Hytönen

So Little Happened For So Long: Nev Clay

Looking forward to a vinyl release of Nev's recent 6 Music Riley and Coe session, we're thrilled to host Nev Clay to play songs from his 2024 album So Little Happened For So Long - featuring Cuddy's Cave, and more.

Nev grew up in Forest Hall, and has lived in Longbenton, a big post-war council estate, for almost 40 years. He was once kicked in the face (accidentally) by Nick Cave, and was introduced to DADGAD tuning by Mark Hollis of Talk Talk.

Nev writes and plays achingly excellent contemporary folk songs that are filled with beautiful observational humour and quiet emotion.

"Nev is a songwriter's songwriter..." Mathias Kom, KLOF Mag

"You'd be hard pressed to hear better guitar playing, better lyrics and more heart anywhere" Kathryn Williams

"The finest songwriter I know" Richard Dawson
