TOPIC: Neuroinflammation and other root causes of psychiatric symptoms
This meeting will present a case-based, clinically relatable discussion of psychiatric and emotional symptoms arising from infections, post-infectious brain changes, and autoimmune or inflammatory diseases in both children and adults. The lecture will provide a brief overview of biological mechanisms underlying neuroinflammation to deepen understanding of how medical conditions may manifest as behavioral or emotional dysregulation. Practical diagnostic pearls will be shared to aid in raising the index of suspicion of these conditions, along with evidence-informed strategies for initiating timely treatment.
Speaker:Dr. Marina Makous, MD
Dr. Marina Makous, MD is a Bpard-Certified Family Physician who completed a 2 year post-doctoral Fellowship at Columbia University Lyme Research Center focusing on Neuro-Psychiatric complications of chronic diseases and Lyme disease, and stayed on as an Assistant Professor at the Departments of Family Medicine and Psychiatry at Columbia University, NY.
Since 2015, Dr. Makous has been treating patients with Lyme and other tick-borne infections, as well as patients with a variety of Mental Health concerns.
Her office is in Exton, PA.
