The 2024 Neurofibromatosis Clinical Updates conference is directed towards healthcare providers that care for neurofibromatosis type 1. As one of the common genetic conditions in pediatrics, almost all healthcare providers will interact with these patients. An awareness and recognition of the condition, as well as potential important complications and associations is important for healthcare providers to be familiar with. Fortunately, in most cases, the management can be done at a primary care level, but it is important for providers to be aware of risk factors and the most up to date information to allow for appropriate monitoring. The conference will highlight the importance of collaboration among healthcare professionals and the significance of monitoring and early intervention of complications to ensure optimal outcome.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Our goal is to improve the knowledge of primary care clinicians, so they are better equipped to provide accurate assessments and management of care, facilitate their interactions with the specialist and improve overall care to this group of patients.

According to The National Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center “Early intervention services can change a child’s developmental path and improve outcomes for children, families, and communities”

Upon conclusion of this program, participants will be able to

  • Discuss the critical role of the primary care provider in the lifelong care and management of children and adolescents with neurofibromatosis type 1.
  • Assess important clinical signs and symptoms, and the need for intervention and referral to appropriate specialists, as it relates to patient outcomes in this complex disorder.
  • Apply best practices and the latest evidence-based guidelines in optimal care and management of neurofibromatosis type 1 patients in the primary clinical practice.
  • Recognize potential cancer risks, developmental issues, and other systemic complications of neurofibromatosis type 1.
