About this Event
Exploring the Intersection of Eating Disorders and Neurodivergence
Research suggests that eating disorders are overrepresented in the neurodivergent population, including, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, sensory processing disorder, and other neurodivergent representations. Despite growing research, awareness and effective clinical approaches are still emerging.
Attendees will learn about early identification, assessment tools, and tailored care strategies for neurodivergent clients. This talk will challenge the view of neurodivergence as a pathology, emphasizing lived experiences and sensory differences. It will explore how standard clinical practices, like CBT and DBT, may need adaptation to better support neurodivergent clients who struggle with Eating Disorders.
Through case studies and practical insights, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to provide affirming and effective treatment that avoids common barriers and biases in traditional care approaches.
