About this Event
Get your binoculars out and hiking boots ready for a scenic walk around the Cockshut restoration project, a new wetland created close to the center of Lewes.
Via the ruins of Lewes Priory, we’ll walk, talk and network from Lewes Train Station to the edge of town, where wildlife is already making a home along the newly ‘rewiggled’ stretch of the Cockshut stream. Located on a rare chalk stream, this one is for anyone who loves a bit of bird watching or wildlife photography, as we keep an eye out for all sorts of winged creatures along the way!
As we chat, we’ll circle the wetland on the recently opened path, looking out for egrets, kingfishers and birds of prey, and find out about how the project aims to tackle the spread of invasive plants and increase biodiversity in the Ouse Valley.
This walk will be led by Charlie Peverett, Partner at Wilsome, bird surveyor and bird guide. Alongside his daily work in research and content strategy for regenerative communications, he also founded Birdsong Academy which helps people identify and enjoy the sound of the birds wherever they are.
What to expect:
Enjoy some time outdoors, make some new connections and watch the conversation flow as we walk and network at a relaxed pace.
We’ll be setting off from The Depot for coffee and taking a roughly 90-minute looped walk around Cockshut restoration project. Charlie will guide us through the morning, taking some stops at points of interest, giving you the chance to learn about this new local project, snap a few pictures and ask questions.
The Chamber team will organize you into small groups that regularly rotate to ensure you get the chance to meet new faces and reacquaint yourself with familiar ones. We'll finish back at the Depot.
Netwalking is a lovely way to start your day, with some fresh air and natural conversation that allows you to learn more about other people and their businesses, in a more informal setting.

What's the refund policy?
Places are limited, and events are usually oversubscribed. Please give two working days’ notice via email for a refund* or you’ll be required to pay for your place in full.
*Eventbrite booking fees are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled or there are duplicate charges.
What happens if it rains?
We still go ahead, please wear appropriate clothing.
Can I attend if I am not a member of the Chamber? If you have never been a member of the Chamber you can book and join as a guest at two of our events (just one Chamber Breakfast).
