About this Event
Celebrate the special bond between humans and dogs at Kukur Tihar: Blessing of the Dogs, part of Diwali in the D’s pop-up series, on Wednesday, October 22 from 5 PM – 7 PM in the back garden at Detroit Shipping Company, hosted by Momo Cha with treats sponsored by Detroit Dog Mom Company.
This is a celebration of Kukur Tihar—the second day of the Nepalese Tihar Festival—this unique tradition honors dogs for their loyalty, love, and their sacred connection to Yama, the god of death, and their roles as protectors.
In Nepal, dogs are blessed with tika (red pigment placed on forehead), adorned with flower garlands, and offered special treats as messengers and protectors.
At our Detroit celebration:
- 🪔Each dog will receive a blessing with tika (skin and fur safe for dogs)
- 🐾 Celebrate both pets & community dogs in a gesture of love and goodwill
Show your receipt from Momo Cha that evening to receive:
- 🍪 A dog treat sponsored by our community partner Detroit Dog Mom Company
- 📸 A polaroid photo to take home of pup and fur parents

This family-friendly event is free to attend (bonus goodies available with purchase from Momo Cha), but space is limited to 100 people, so please RSVP early to secure your spot. Bring your furry friends, family, and an open heart for this beautiful cultural celebration.
