About this Event
This band takes the music of D’Angelo, Leon Bridges, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, The Meters, Sharon Jones, and others, and opens it all up. A stripped-down, minimalist approach that focuses on groove and feeling, combined with the boundless creativity and spontaneity of jazz. Angela Wilson’s beautiful, soulful voice floats above the textures and constantly surprising harmonies of organist, pianist, and musical wizard Nick Peck. Bassist Graham Shonwise and drummer Hans Verhoeven anchor deep funky grooves while constantly stoking the fires of Nick and Angela’s soaring and exciting improvisations. Always soulful, always grooving, always 100% in the moment. The great drummer and bandleader Art Blakey famously said, “music washes away the dust of everyday life.” The Deadly Nightshades are proud to say that this pretty much describes our mission statement.
The new " " is extremely excited to present this concert - our second benefit concert of a series to support the renovation of our new home - St Andrew's - to become an exciting home for the arts in Nanaimo.
