Since 1969, Nektar has taken legions of fans on audio-visual journeys to far reaches of the universe and the depths of the ocean with their immersive blend of sight and sound.
Last year, in 2024, the band celebrated the release of a brand new release MISSION TO MARS. Their concert tour (including here at the Irving Theater) featured this new music, some of it in 3-D!
Recently, on January 21st, 2025, American Songwriter magazine announced their choice for the "4 Iconic Prog-Rock Albums That Still Sound Futuristic in the 2020s".
NONE of the albums were by American bands or writers. ALL of them were from Brits, and all from either the 1970s or mid-1980s.
The album coming in at #2 -- ahead of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" -- was Remember the Future by Nektar. In this article, the magazine stated "Part of what makes prog-rock albums such a delight is how forward-thinking many of them are. At least, that’s definitely the case for progressive rock albums that came out decades ago during the genre’s heyday. We’re big fans of the following four records and think they’re still quite ahead of their time, even in the 2020s."
Regarding Nektar's "Remember the Future", the magazine stated "Out of all the prog-rock albums on this list, there’s something particularly funky about the 1973 album Remember The Future by Nektar. One could look at it as a single, conceptual song divided up into 10 different tracks, as the rhythm tracks seamlessly weave one song into another. The way the chord progressions were written was quite smart, and the story behind the album is as bizarre as it is brilliant."
Clearly, Nektar is a band that has been ahead of itself over the past 50+ years, and is still as relevant and rockin' and psychedelic as ever.
The band has been taking care of fans (old and new) by releasing classic material from their recent tours plus from their archives. Last year, the band released a concert CD/DVD release from their 2023 tour, as well as two CD/DVD 50th anniversary box sets of their iconic albums REMEMBER THE FUTURE and RECYCLED.
You may purchase these and other great releases at the band's merch table near the entrance to auditorium inside the Irving Theater.
Nektar blends a jam-band vibe with superb musicality, along with a multi-media light and video show that perfectly complements the music.
A Nektar show is an unparalleled feast for the senses.
Nektar features original member Derek "Mo" Moore (bass guitar, vocals).
Ryche Chlanda (guitar, vocals) is an alum of previous Nektar incarnations.
World-class multi-instrumentalist Kendall Scott is a wizard on keyboards.
Vocalist Maryann Castello adds her lovely voice to the mix.
With the death of founding member drummer Ron Howden, the band was happy to welcome Jay Dittamo last year.
Join us in welcoming NEKTAR back to Indy. If you have seen them perform in the past five years, you know what a fantastic show they deliver. If you have not seen Nektar previously, come to this concert and experience a magical night of musical and visual entertainment.
