TRIBUTE TO DAVE BRUBECK AT BEAVERThe late pianist Dave Brubeck was an enormously popular and influential figure who possibly did more than anyone to bring jazz in to the mainstream. Assessing Brubeck’s achievement jazz critic John Fordham wrote in The Guardian that he blended ‘European compositional ideas, very demanding rhythmic structures, jazz song-forms and improvisation in expressive and accessible ways’.
On 3rd February saxophonist Neil Maya will bring his quartet to North Devon Jazz Club in The Beaver, Appledore to play a tribute to the great man, performing a programme which will include some of Brubeck’s best work, including It’s a Raggy Waltz, Blue Rondo a la Turk, Unsquare Dance and, of course, Take Five.
The Brubeck Project will start at 8.30 p.m and entry to the gig will be free, although there will be a collection for the band during the evening.
