Neighbourhoods for Nature, Caring Communities You are invited to Neighbourhoods for Nature, Caring Communities: Taking action together to prepare our families, homes and neighbourhoods for climate change, Saturday, November 15, 11am – 3pm, at the Main Library (74 Mackenzie St). Preceded by a climate resilient neighbourhood walk. Free transit to this free community event.
10am: Climate resilient neighbourhood walk. What is a climate resilient neighbourhood? Explore this question on a guided walk through Uptown and the Donovan. Led by architect Kai Wood Mah, and Cortney St. Jean, Chair of the Uptown CAN. Stop for free cookies at Beard’s Coffee Bar & Bakery along the way! Register here. With Rainbow Routes and Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury.
Drop in 11am – 3pm, for information, resources, activities & free snacks.
-Understand local climate risks and what you can do. With EarthCare Sudbury, Up North on Climate, Public Health Sudbury and Districts.
-Connect to information, resources and community groups to take action. With Canadian Environmental Law Association, Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury, Junction Creek Stewardship Committee, Manidoo Bineshii Dreams, Robinson Huron Waawiindamaagewin, Traditional Ecological Knowledge Elders.
-Ask a neighbour. Chat with fellow community members about their experiences doing home retrofits, or owning and driving an EV in Sudbury.
-Activities for all ages. Caring for the Land with Better Beginnings Better Futures Indigenous-led. Seed bomb making with The Nickel Refillery. Vermicomposting demo with Sudbury Shared Harvest. Art-based mindfulness activities for kids.
-Community swaps. Toy swap with The Little Wooden Library. Clothing swap and drop-in mending with Closet Share, with mending help from Afro Women and Youth Foundation. Recipe swap.
-Safe spaces for climate conversations.
-Food. Free snacks, and local food access mapping.
Envision a Climate Resilient Community and share what that means to you!
11:30am: Building Climate Resilience Together: A Gathering for Climate Connection. Join facilitator Andréa Desjardins, MSW, RSW, a climate-aware social worker, psychotherapist, and member of the Climate Psychology Alliance, for a welcoming, community-focused session on climate resilience. Andréa will be available throughout the afternoon for individual conversations. Everyone is welcome to join, connect, reflect, and build resilience together.
1pm-3pm: Typewriter poetry with Blaine Thornton: Share your thoughts and leave with an original poem.
1pm: PRESENTATION: Understanding climate risks. With Dr. David Pearson, in meeting room 1, downstairs.
2pm: PRESENTATION: What’s happening in your backyard? Environmental Well-Being in Sudbury: Using environmental law and policy tools to drive action and solutions. With Canadian Environmental Law Association, in meeting room 1, downstairs.

Take the bus free to travel to and from the event. Upon boarding, tell the driver you are attending the Neighborhood for Nature, Caring Communities event to receive a free ride. Take your bus to the transit terminal and walk from there, or take bus #26 or #27 to get off right at the library. Bike racks and free parking at the library and nearby.
