A rousing reunion for a jazz quartet of accomplished musicians reuniting for one night only after many years apart.Neighborliness, an eclectic jazz quartet whose earliest gigs date back to 1999, was once a mainstay of the Richmond club scene. Inspired by the sounds of The Bad Plus, Brian Blade Fellowship, and the Brad Mehldau Trio - Neighborliness perform their own unpredictable arrangements of jazz standards, pop/rock tunes like "Instant Karma" and "Head Over Heels," nouveau funk jams, and original songs by Daniel and John, including their tribute anthem, "Vladivostok."
In 2004, the band undertook a U.S. State Department-sponsored tour of Asia, Russia and Mexico, and performed on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. After many more gigs and two more trips to Russia, the band members went their separate ways in 2009 - Daniel went on the road with k.d. lang; Curtis moved to D.C.; Robby moved to NYC then to L.A. then to France!; John hunkered down in Richmond, teaching, performing and raising two kids.
Now, for one night only, they're getting the band back together! Come out and remind yourself (or witness for the first time) the infectious energy of Neighborliness. Wild improvisations, reckless hilarity and heartfelt poignancy all in one show.
The quartet features: Daniel Clarke (piano); John Winn (vocals and saxophone); Curtis Fye (bass); and Robby Sinclair (drums).
