A fantastic Friday night at Jamboree with headliners Neghma Band, a Moroccan musical collective that carries the timeless spirit of Gnawa music into the present day, blending it seamlessly with the global sounds of Afrobeat, jazz and blues! Support comes from Charming Disaster, a goth-folk musical duo based in Brooklyn, NY, and more! Inspired by the macabre humour of Edward Gorey and Tim Burton, the M**der ballads of the Americana tradition, and the dramatic flair of the cabaret, they write playfully dark songs that tell stories about myth, magic, science, and the occult.
Headliners the Neghma Band's sound is rooted in the mystical rhythms and spiritual traditions of Morocco, bridging cultures, generations, and continents. It is both ancient and refreshingly modern.The name "Neghma", which means "melody" in Arabic, reflects the group's mission: to transform heritage into living sound, weaving melodies that connect heartbeats across borders.
In support, Brooklyn duo Charming Disaster's theatrical live performances combine vocal harmonies and clever lyrics with ukulele, guitar and virtuosic foot percussion, drawing listeners into a spooky, offbeat universe of paranormal romance, con artists, circus performers, and ancient mythology, playing out against a backdrop of nightclubs, car chases, circus tents, the afterlife, and beyond. Their music has been featured on the podcast Welcome to Night Vale, they've opened for legendary cello-rock ensemble Rasputina, goth icon Voltaire, and punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls, and appeared alongside storytellers, comedians, fire eaters, puppets, burlesque artists, poets, and circus performers, captivating audiences across the United States. Recent appearances include Brooklyn’s historic Green-Wood Cemetery, the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond, VA, Cleveland’s Wizbang Circus Theatre, and the Coney Island Sideshow stage!
