About this Event
Use wool and needle-felting techniques to create an ornament that looks like your dog — you can even incorporate your dog’s fur into your project!
Needle felting is a fun and easy-to-learn craft that creates sculptures by stabbing wool with a special needle. If you can hold a needle and stab with it, you’ve got enough experience to make your dog out of wool.
Stressed about work? STAB! Mad about something? STAB! Big feelings about the news? STAB! You’ll relieve stress and finish the night with an adorable ornament to hang on your Christmas tree (or a cabinet handle, doorknob, etc.) — and enough supplies to make a second ornament at home!
Each student will get:
- A kit with more than $40 of needle-felting supplies to take home — enough to make a dog ornament, and a patterned red and green ornament (or trade for Hanukkah blue!)
- Guided instruction and hands-on help to make your dog come alive in wool
- Written and video tutorials on needle felting from FeltedSky
- Ask The Dog Trainer — your needle felting instructor, E. Foley, (@foleysdogtraining) is also a certified dog trainer, so feel free to ask your dog questions while you are crafting!
You should bring:
- Photos of your dog's head from all angles (probably already on your phone!)
- A tiny baggie of your dog's fur if you want to add it to your ornament
- The desire to relieve all your stress and tell stories about your dog with your new friends
This workshop is for crafters ages 10 to adult. For children, ask yourself, "Would I trust my child with a sharp, barbed needle?" If you would, they can come! Under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
A few other FAQs:
Q: Wool makes me itchy — can I still do this?
A: Yes! There will be disposable gloves available if you want to minimize contact with the wool.
Q: Can I make my cat instead?
A: Yes! You'll be hanging out with a lot of dog people, but we don't bite (hard).
