Prakhar Joshi (bansuri) Dhaivat Mehta (tabla) Prominent among the various initiatives undertaken by Citi and NCPA are two programmes: Support to Guru-Shishya Tradition Scholarships to Young Musicians. The NCPA Citi Promising Artistes Series has been launched to offer a performance opportunity to the beneficiaries of these programmes. Nainital-based young flute player, Prakhar Joshi started his musical journey at the age of six under his father and guru Gopal Chandra Joshi, a flautist and teacher with the Uttarakhand government. At the age of 11, he began his training on the flute under senior flautist Nityanand Haldipur and, in the same year, was offered a CCRT scholarship for Hindustani classical flute. In 2018, he won the gold medal at Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Pratiyogita in Jalandhar, along with many other accolades in the coming years such as the bronze medal in Lucknow’s grand finale of Classical Voice of India and gold prize in Dhrupad Khyaal Parv in 2019, a gold in Yuva Mahotsav state level competition, and much more. Since April of 2022, Joshi has been nominated by Haldipur as his disciple under the NCPA Citi Support to Guru-Shishya Tradition Programme. It was Dhaivat Mehta’s uncle, Harshesh Mehta, who not only taught him the tabla but also took him to Dr. Aneesh Pradhan, a renowned tabla player, when he showed interest in the instrument. Mehta has been learning the instrument under Pradhan’s supervision for 19 years now. He is also the shishya of Pradhan under the ‘NCPA Citi Support to Guru-Shishya Tradition’ programme.[VP1] Over the course of his career, Mehta has accompanied and collaborated musicians such as Shubha Mugdal, Sudhir Nayak, Ashok Nadgir, Padma Wadkar, Bobby Singh, Igor Iwanek, among others and also participated in festivals like Serendipity Arts Festival, Banganga Sangeet Mahotsav, Sharda Sangeet Mahotsav and more. He completed his postgraduate degree in tabla from Raja Mansingh Tomar University in Gwalior and his Ph.D. from The Maharaja Sayairao University in Vadodara. An NCPA Presentation Supported by Citi Entry free on a first-come-first-served basis.
