Learn, play, create, and feast! Nchem̓ús Day is your chance to dive into Indigenous art, stories, and games.Nchem̓ús Day is a full day of hands-on experiences, storytelling, and a fun chance to connect with your Indigenous neighbours.
Make your own lightbox in a workshop with Kim Seward and Lisa Lewis, try your luck at Slahal, an ancient Indigenous game led by Swalklanexw Dallas Guss, or drop in to watch master carver Xwalacktun at work and learn about his craft. Sam Seward will offer stories about lacrosse and reclaiming his traditional weaving practice.
The day wraps up with a feast, giving everyone a chance to relax, eat, and connect. After the meal, stick around for special evening programming: a reading from a new play by Coast Salish playwrights, poetry readings from Columpa Bobb and Tania Carter inspired by their mother, Lee Maracle, and some laughs from stand-up comedian Keith Nahanee.
Nchem̓ús means “people coming together,” and this day is all about doing just that, learning, creating and playing in a welcoming and relaxed environment. Come for an hour or stay all day! We can’t wait to see you there.
