The Impresario/At the AuditionDer Shauspieldirektor, by WA Mozart
English Translation by Giovanni Cardelli
Story Adaptation by Jennifer Barrett
Mr. Scruples is in a bind: the beloved opera company he runs is in danger of going out of business. His colleagues (the spunky Diana Divina and the loveable Mr. Bluff) decide that throwing a fundraiser gala is the answer to their woes, and so they put out a call for singers to come audition for their event, no experience necessary!
Knowing they need some stars to draw in the crowd, Bluff arranges for a visit from the illustrious Madame Goldentrill, who will be financed by the wealthy soprano-loving mogul Mr. Angel. Upon her acceptance, Angel reveals his connection with an unknown ingenue: Miss Silverpeal. Both are accepted, but with a diva battle like no other.
Throughout the performance, you’ll learn about opera through the ages and hear it performed in many forms. The program includes the selections from The Impresario as well as works by Purcell, Offenbach, Gilbert and Sullivan, Romberg, and an Andrews Sisters transcription by local composer Marissa Simmons. The ensemble is directed by Jennifer Barrett, with Jon Warfel as Music Coach and Pianist. Dr. Tim Semanik will conduct the performance.
The performance will take place Thursday, April 17th at 7:00 in the Pfeiffer Hall Auditorium, 310 E Benton in Naperville. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the Box Office in the Wentz Fine Arts Center, or online at this link: https://www.northcentralcollege.edu/north-central-college-opera-workshop-showcase
We hope you can join us for a beautiful evening of opera!
