About this Event
Kier Construction is delivering a £34m two-stage project to replace the existing Eye Infirmary and provide a modern home for ophthalmology services for South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT). The new facility will be a centre of excellence for eye healthcare in the UK and part of the Sunderland Riverside regeneration scheme.
Key Features:
- Size: 7,000sqm of state-of-the-art clinical space
- Design: Accessible and inclusive, with level access from street level (north and south entrances)
- Ground & Level 1: Emergency department, medical retina, diagnostic imaging, and outpatient services
- Levels 2 & 3: Additional clinical spaces
- Level 4 & Energy Centre: Plant and technical facilities
- Purpose: To meet the growing healthcare needs of an ageing population through to 2039 and beyond
Attendees will gain insight into the planning, design, and construction of a leading UK eye care facility.
PPE Requirements:
All attendees must bring steel-toe safety boots. Hard hats, hi-vis vests, gloves, and safety glasses will be provided if required.
Meeting Instructions:
Please meet at The Beam site office before heading over to the Eye Infirmary site. There is no on-site parking, but nearby options include:
