“WHERE AM I???”CHATHAM COAST GUARD AUXILIARY TO OFFER
PUBLIC LECTURE BY RENOWNED NAVIGATION EXPERT
Harvard’s Dr. John Huth to Share Navigation Knowledge & Skills
at Chatham Community Center on Saturday, April 12 at 1 P.M.
CHATHAM – Dr. John Huth, Donner Professor of Science at Harvard University and one of the world’s leading experts on navigation, will present a public lecture on basic navigation knowledge and skills at the Chatham Community Center on Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m.
The navigation lecture, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Chatham Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Dr. Huth is author of the book, The Lost Art of Finding Our Way. His Chatham lecture will address the theory that we are all navigators, capable of learning techniques ranging from the simplest to the most sophisticated skills of direction-finding. Even in today’s world of high technology, Huth maintains that careful observation of the sun and moon; tides and ocean currents; and weather and atmospheric effects can be all that we need to find our way on the water or on land.
Although admission to the April 12 event is free, contributions to support the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s boating safety programs will be accepted.
