About this Event

Marks & Clerk are privileged to be joined by Mark Cruickshank, Managing legal Counsel for NatWest Group, as we host an in-person seminar to discuss Intellectual Property protection in the FinTech sector.

As part of this year's Scotland FinTech Festival, the seminar will explore the different forms of IP applicable to FinTech businesses.

Financial Technology (FinTech) is a rapidly growing sector that makes use of technology to enhance financial services, with both innovation and IP playing an important role in the competitive landscape of the financial sector. During this session, we will guide you through the areas of trade marks, designs, patents and copyright and delve into what, why and how IP can be protected in relation to Fintech innovation. These innovations can be complex in nature, but a strong understanding and adoption of these IP assets will provide owners with a competitive advantage.

Pamela is experienced in preparing, filing and prosecuting mechanical, electronic and software-related patent applications in the UK and internationally. She works with clients in a range of industries and has gained particular experience in the areas of financial technology, blockchain, security systems, semiconductors, sensors, medical devices, prostheses, oil and gas technology and consumer products. She is also experienced in handling UK, European, Singaporean and international design registrations and was responsible for setting up our Design and Copyright Practice Group. Consequently, Pamela regularly advises on contentious and strategic matters relating to patents, registered and unregistered design rights and copyright. As an active member of our in-house training team, Pamela has designed and delivered numerous training sessions on various aspects of IP - both internally and externally.

Mark Cruickshank

Mark is Managing Legal Counsel in the Outsourcing, Technology & IP team at NatWest Group. Mark advises on all contentious and commercial IP matters for NatWest Group including for Royal Bank of Scotland, Coutts and Ulster Bank with a focus on FinTech. He is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in intellectual property law. He sits on the Law Society of Scotland's Panel for Specialist Intellectual Property Law Accreditation and also on the Intellectual Property Law Sub-Committee. Mark is also a Board Member of Wikimedia UK.
