Not too long ago, the success or failure of a special event could be measured by the number of TV cameras in attendance or how many print journalists showed up. As we approach 2025, does counting TV cameras still matter? Or are there other ways—perhaps even better ways—to get the word out about our event and our organization? Is owned media more important nowadays than earned media? In these days of smaller news staffs and fewer resources, what can PR professionals do to help ensure a good media turnout and positive coverage?
Our panel of PR experts can answer all those questions and many more. They have decades of hands-on experience on both sides of the TV camera, behind the radio microphone, in front of the college classroom, and inside a fast-paced PR and strategic communications agency. At this Q&A comms pros may learn what works, what doesn’t, and what tactics are considered absolute no-no’s by the editors and reporters whose coverage we covet.
Our panel: Jamie Costello, broadcast journalist formerly of WMAR-TV; Sue Kopen Katcef, reporter and University of Maryland journalism professor; and Caitlin Wiggins, marketing director for Liquified Creative, a full-service ad agency.
$25 for PRSA Chesapeake and AAC Chamber of Commerce members; $30 for non-members. All are welcome. Snacks and beverages included. Parking is free.
