About this Event
Navigating Grief Through the Body (5-week Group)
Join us for this in-person, 5-week group focused on navigating the emotions of grief through body awareness and mindfulness practices.
Grief is a part of all of our lives and yet every person's loss is as unique to them and the loss they have endured. We want to create a space where you can explore your personal experience with grief while in community with others. Using polyvagal theory as the conceptual framework, we will help guide you in tracking your emotions and bodily sensations through experiential learning, mindfulness meditations and other exercises.
The goals of this group are to:
- Increase body sensation awareness
- Increase your tolerance for intense feelings
- Increase your understanding of how your emotion shows up in your body
- Create anchors to help ground yourself when waves of emotion arise
- Support holistic healing with greater self-awareness, compassion, and resilience

Lydia (she/they) and Melanie (she/her) are graduate students in the Somatic Psychotherapy program at Naropa University. Their training in dance and body psychotherapy provides them with a unique angle on healing and processing grief which they are excited to share with you. In this group, they will provide a combination of skill-building and support through the grief process.Their mindfulness training will help you meet the present moment and liberate yourself from the stories which may cloud your authentic self.
Lydia Lutsyshyna holds a BA in Psychology from Reed College and is currently in the Somatic Psychotherapy graduate program at Naropa University. Lydia has spent four years working in suicide prevention and crisis management. She was drawn to somatic work since she noticed that many people could intellectualize--but not feel--their feelings. Lydia is passionate about helping others ride the wave of their emotions and develop fluid connections between their minds, bodies, and souls.
Melanie Johnson received her BA in Dance from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She then spent several years working in treatment centers for eating disorders and substance abuse, where she held yoga and reiki sessions for clients. Melanie has also worked as a health and wellness coach, and children’s dance and yoga teacher. After experiencing the powerful healing impacts of somatic therapy, she felt called to become a counselor. She is currently a student at Naropa University, working towards her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in Somatic Counseling and Dance/Movement Therapy. Melanie is passionate about the human innate capacity to heal and transform.
This event will be hosted by a mental health group practice in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, offering counseling for everyone.
