About this Event
Are you looking for new ways to connect with the natural world? Looking for writing inspiration, no matter your experience?
Join author and poet Laurie Allmann for a day of engaging discussion, time outdoors, and writing exercises inspired by the natural beauty of the Prior Lake-Spring Lake Watershed. Whether you’re just beginning or have years of practice, writers ages 16+ of all genres are welcome. Workshop limited to 20 participants. Lunch, notebooks, pens/pencils, water and snacks provided. Comfortable clothing, hats for sun, and low-heeled shoes recommended. Rain or shine: we'll stay indoors in the event of inclement weather.
About the InstructorLaurie Allmann is an environmental writer, poet and spoken word artist with a keen interest in bridging the gap between the scientific community and the general public. She was the recipient of a Minnesota Book Award for Far from Tame: Reflections from the Heart of a Continent (University of Minnesota Press), and received a gold medal in poetry from the Midwest Independent Publishers Association for her book, An Hour from Now, published by Nodin Press. She was a member of the writing team for the public television documentary series Minnesota: A History of the Land, and was a regularly featured essayist-commentator for Minnesota Public Radio's Voices from the Heartland series. She is currently co-editor of Agate (www.agatemag.com), an online magazine focused on the people and environment of Minnesota and the surrounding Great Lakes region, and has just completed a year-long writers' residency with the nonprofit Northwoods & Waters of the St. Croix.
