The word โwaspโ often conjures up fear, dread, displeasure, or even hatred. But these unbelievably diverse and vital insects are woefully misunderstood. From important pollinators to beneficial predators and parasitoids, there is a lot more to wasps that most people know. Science communicator, researcher, and photographer, Sloan Tomlinson will lead attendees through this fascinating and rarely glimpsed world. He will look at our amazing wasp diversity here in Massachusetts, to the great world beyond; where wasps inhabit virtually every habitat. Come and learn about the fascinating but sometimes macabre parasitoid wasps, maternal care where youโd least expect it, drama unfolding like a soap opera, and life cycles that put even our best science fiction to shame! Wasps are forever weird and wonderful misunderstood marvels. In a collaborative effort between Stanley Park and the Greater Westfield Community, nine free Nature Workshops will be conducted in the 229-acre Wildlife Sanctuary* at Stanley Park this season. We hope you take advantage of these opportunities to enjoy natureโs beauty.
*This workshop will take place in the Pavilion Annex. Workshops will cancel if there is heavy rain, unless otherwise noted.
