Join us for a guided walk along the River Kelvin, where we hope to spot otters and kingfishers and record the biodiversity we spot.
About this Event

Join Friends of the River Kelvin (FORK) and GALLANT for a guided nature walkshop along the River Kelvin. We'll be led by FORK and Glasgow Natural History Society member Pat Thompson and focus on places along the river where we might spot some kingfishers and otters. We'll use CommuniMap to collect data on the biodiversity along the River Kelvin - and invite you to share your personal experiences in nature.

CommuniMap is an innovative new community science app developed through the GALLANT project at the University of Glasgow. It invites you to see your local area through fresh eyes – tuning in to nature, movement, and the everyday rhythms that shape where you live. Whether you’re walking, wheeling, composting at home, or simply noticing the trees on your street, your observations help shape a collective story of local life.

We'll introduce you to the app if you haven't used it before and do some test spots so you can continue to use the app at your own pace.

You can upload your spots directly to app available on the Google Play store and the App Store. You can also find the communiMap web version here. We also have a paper version of the app in the form of a workbook for those who would rather add spots this way.

GALLANT can provide £10 vouchers for those who can join us.

Packed lunch will be provided, there will be vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available. Please bring your own water and keep an eye on the forecast and dress warmly and wear sturdy footwear as we'll go off paths at times.

Start time of 10.30am, meeting at the Main Gates of the Botanics from 10.15. We'll head along the Kelvin walkway and return to the Botanics for 13.30. After lunch you have the option to stay on and do more recording until 15.30.
