With three individual seminars to choose from – Ethics and Foundation of Nature Photography, Techniques and Locations, and Workflow and Processing – over three evenings, you can choose which seminars you want to attend, or bundle to attend all three! This is the ultimate à la carte learning experience!
Seminar 1: Ethics and Foundation of Nature Photography
March 27th, 2025 – 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Objective: Establish a strong ethical and technical foundation for nature photography.
Part 1: Ethics in Nature Photography (45 min)
- Respecting wildlife and habitats
- Understanding ethical photography guidelines (e.g., Leave No Trace principles)
- The impact of human presence and responsible behaviour
Part 2: Fundamentals of Nature Photography (45 min)
- Understanding camera settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO)
- Composition basics (rule of thirds, leading lines, framing)
- Importance of lighting and how to use it effectively
Q&A and Discussion (30 min)
Seminar 2: Techniques and Locations
April 3rd, 2025 – 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Objective: Explore various techniques and locations to improve nature photography.
Part 1: Advanced Techniques (60 min)
- Long exposure for waterfalls
- Using filters (polarizers, ND filters) – include video
- Birds in flight and action photography
- Understanding weather and how it affects shots – include video
Part 2: Choosing the Right Locations (30 min)
- Researching and scouting locations
- Best times of year for specific subjects
- Hidden gems and how to find them
Q&A and Sharing Experiences (30 min)
Seminar 3: Workflow and Processing
April 10th, 2025 – 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Objective: Teach an efficient workflow from field to final image.
Part 1: Organizing and Managing Photos (45 min)
- File organization and backup strategies
- Sorting and selecting the best images
- Metadata and keywording for easy access
Part 2: Editing and Post-Processing (60 min)
- Introduction to Lightroom and Photoshop
- Basic adjustments: exposure, contrast, colour balance
- Removing distractions and enhancing details
- Preparing images for print and web
Q&A and Live Editing Demonstration & Critique (45 min)

For nearly three decades, Joe has been immersed in photography. He began his career as a studio photographer in Northern Ontario, Canada. Growing up in this remote area allowed him to learn his craft while exploring the outdoors, making wildlife and landscape photography a perfect fit.
Today, Joe works as a professional photographer from Calgary, Alberta, focusing mainly on wildlife and landscape photography.
Joe loves to share his knowledge and enthusiasm for photography with others through teaching, workshops and speaking engagements.
Joe is an award-winning and nationally published photographer who has earned multiple national accreditations in various disciplines, including equine, landscape, nature, wildlife and more.
Joe has also garnered the designation of Master Photographer (MPN) in Nature Photography with MPI, Master Photographers International.
Above all, Joe’s biggest passion is teaching and loves the enthusiasm his students bring to the classroom and the field.

Chris developed a strong interest in technology, film, video, and photography from an early age. He has been actively involved in video operations and production for the last 30+ years and photography for the last decade.
In 2019, after spending over 25+ years in the television broadcast industry, Chris decided to leave the corporate world and pursue his passion for photography and videography. He established a media company in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, along with his wife, Jennifer, that specializes in videography, photography, aerial drone visuals, video/photo editing, and voice over content.
Chris established 'Footprints in Nature' as his signature creative brand, 'A Visual Gateway to the Natural World'. His collection of stunning scenic visuals, captivating wildlife videos, and exquisite photographic artwork reflect his love of nature. The name 'Footprints in Nature' represents Chris' profound respect for the environment and the importance of preserving it. Chris's growing collection is a visual representation of his ongoing experiences in nature, while also serving as a reminder of the preciousness of our natural world.
