Nature Nanaimo is pleased to announce our next monthly meeting with the following presentation:Totally Saturated: Plants of Extremely Wet Habitats of Vancouver Island - with Randal Mindell
Thursday, October 16th, Beban Park Social Centre – Rm 2
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
This talk will highlight the unique communities of mosses, liverworts, clubmosses, orchids and lichens that thrive on the north coast of Vancouver Island, where extreme winds, constant moisture and a rolling bog scape play host to anomalous species previously only known from Haida Gwaii and the other side of the Pacific Ocean. A prospectus for further range extensions and other possible species that have evaded notice will be given alongside search criteria for locating this habitat elsewhere on the island.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Randal Mindell is a botanist living in the Comox Valley. He has particular interests in mosses, liverworts, hornworts and lichens of British Columbia in addition to the evolution of post-glacial landscapes.
