Explore the practice of nature journalling to observe and document coastal environments. This workshop combines field observation with recording techniques, offering participants tools for deeper environmental engagement.The morning will begins with an brief overview of nature journalling, followed by a beach walk to observe and discuss coastal ecosystems. We'll then find comfortable spots to practice observation skills and document what we see, hear and feel through drawing, painting, and writing.
Participants can approach nature journalling in ways that suit their interests, whether focused on scientific observation, artistic expression, personal reflection or environmental awareness,
Workshop Facilitators:
Dr Tanya Scharaschkin - Botanist, artist and acting-President of Australian Nature Journalling Association. Tanya will guide you through the practice of nature journalling.
Lily Barnett - Watercolour artist, illustrator, ocean enthusiast and illustrator of "Growing up on the Great Southern Reef" . Lily has been painting marine life observed from her time on the water. She will provide guidance with drawing and painting and share her knowledge of the coastal environment.

Location: Hinsby Beach, Tasmania
Experience level: All welcome
Bring: Drawing materials (paper/sketchbook, clipboard, pencils/pens, watercolors), walking shoes, sun protection, water bottle. Some supplies available, please reach out if you need!
Outcomes: Techniques for nature journalling and fostering deeper connections to the marine environment.
Note: This beach access requires walking on uneven surfaces and is unfortunately not accessible via wheelchair
