Learn to observe and journal your surroundings in this nature workshop!
Join us for a Nature Club workshop at Crescent Drive Park, as we explore the art of nature journaling with CPAWS Environmental Education Manager Carly Gray.
Nature journaling is an incredible practice that helps connect us to the outdoors and offers a better understanding of the world we live in. This type of journaling involves immersing oneself in nature, practising quiet observation and encouraging curiosity about the plants, animals and landscapes all around us.
In this workshop held outdoors at Crescent Drive Park, you'll learn tips, techniques and interactive activities to get you started on your own nature journaling journey.
Note: This is not an art workshop and no artistic talent is required. Perfect for beginners and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages! All bodies and all levels of experience are welcome in this loving and inclusive space.
This workshop is all about getting outside, meeting new people, and having fun!
How to get there:
We will meet at site 3 of Crescent Drive Park.
How to find us:
Drive along Crescent Drive through the park.
Towards the middle, you will see a large parking lot on the west side of the street, park there.
Then you will see a green tent beside the parking lot, that's us!
Parking & Amenities:
Accessible bathrooms available
Large accessible parking lot
Dogs are allowed in the park, however, they are not recommended for the event, as it can distract other participants.
What to Bring to the Event
A pen or pencil
A journal (any type or kind!)
We recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes and long pants as we will be walking around our site.
Check the weather forecast and dress appropriately! Pack a hat if it’s sunny, a raincoat if it’s going to get wet, and a sweater or jacket if it’s going to be windy or cold. Dress in layers so you can cool off or warm up as needed.
Bring bottles of water
Snacks are a great way to keep your energy up throughout the event
Bug spray and sunscreen
Lawn chair or blanket for sitting portions of the event
About CPAWS Manitoba:
CPAWS Manitoba has been instrumental in establishing 23 new parks and protected areas in our province. That's an area larger than Lake Winnipeg at nearly 26,000 square kilometres. Our goal is to protect half of Manitoba’s lands and waters.
About the Host:
Carly Gray is the inspiring leader of our Outdoor Education Program, bringing her vibrant passion for nature and education to every adventure. A certified teacher from the University of Winnipeg After-Degree Bachelor of Education program (April 2023), Carly joined CPAWS part-time in June 2022, quickly transitioning to a full-time educator in 2023. Now, as the manager of our Outdoor Education Program, she has shared the wonders of the natural world with thousands of children and adults across Manitoba.
About the CPAWS Manitoba Nature Club
CPAWS Manitoba’s Nature Club is designed to help Manitobans get outside, make new friends and learn about the wonders of nature.
We’ve developed a wide range of programming and activities to help Manitobans of all ages and abilities enjoy the health and wellness benefits of nature.
Find out more at our website - www.cpawsmb.org - and be sure to subscribe to our events newsletter and follow us on Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok so you don’t miss out on upcoming events.
Safety Protocols
CPAWS Manitoba takes the safety of all program participants seriously.
All CPAWS Manitoba staff members have cleared a criminal record and vulnerable sector background check with the Winnipeg Police Department. We adhere to all public health recommendations and guidelines.
CPAWS policy requires that at least one person leading programming that may involve children must be certified in first aid. This applies to staff or to volunteers.
Weather & Cancellation Policy
We try not to let the weather stop us from getting outside. With the right gear, you can have a great time in most weather conditions.
That being said, safety must always be our top priority. We can’t be outside in a thunderstorm and may need to cancel if roads are hazardous.
Weather forecasts are notoriously unreliable. While we will do our best to monitor and make good judgment calls, there will be times when we decide to cancel and the skies clear and other days when a storm or high winds pop up unexpectedly.
We’ll send out an e-mail alert the day before an event letting registrants know if there’s a good chance we need to cancel. We will check the forecast again a few hours before the event to determine if we can try to go ahead.
