Nature-based Therapeutic Skills Training
This is a hands-on experiential course, delivered in person in the woodland and then an online 2-hour online session is also included.
This training will develop your skills to support the holistic development of the client groups and individuals you work with outside in Nature.
Saturday 15th June 2024, 10am - 4pm, in person
Sunday 16th June 2024, 10am – 4pm, in person
There will also be a follow up session online 6-8pm. Date to be confirmed but will be in July 2024.
Venue: The venue will be a Woodland in Sheffield, UK- we are just finalising the Woodland. You will receive an email with the address.
Places are limited to 20 attendee's- this training will sell out FAST.

- Forest School Leaders
- Or those with an equivalent training
No prior nature based/Forest School training necessary.
What is covered during the course?
- What nature-based practice means and what to consider for your locations
- Exploration of nature as co-therapist
- Meaning of attachment to place in nature based settings
- Understanding the core principles of nature based Play Therapy
- Effective communication with children and participants with social and emotional needs
- Relevance of child centred and child led play in outdoor settings
- Setting appropriate boundaries for the setting and for the model
- Managing containment
- Managing confidentiality
(4 hours of self-study will be expected)
By the end of the training you will feel confident to utilise the training in practice.
All equipment is provided for the training; we would recommend that you bring a drinks bottle, notebook and pen.
Training will be taking place in the woodlands, so please come dressed for all weathers with comfy sturdy boots and be prepared to get a little muddy.
Your ticket also includes lunch on the Saturday and Sunday. Please advise us of any dietary requirements on booking.

Children’s Therapy Services www.childrenstherapyservices.online is hosting the training.
The training is delivered by Shuna Mercer and Sophie Kyle.
Shuna Mercer
Shuna is a BAPT registered nature-based Play Therapist and a clinical supervisor has been running her own private practice for 18 years. She has recently studied Children in Permaculture and is a Forest School Leader. She took her practice out into nature 9 years ago and this has deepened her work with the children and young people she works with.
Sophie Kyle
Sophie is an independent forest school leader and a tutor on Scotland’s Forest and Outdoor Learning Awards. She runs her own forest school programmes in Glasgow green spaces for mainstream and ASL groups and works with schools to support their outdoor learning programmes and trains teachers with skills to take their groups outside with confidence. She is the chair of the Glasgow Region OWL group and a personal development and business coach for artists and holistic therapists.
