Nature-Based Mindfulness

In this four-week workshop, we will gather together to learn and practice mindfulness in the serene and natural setting of the Swaner Preserve. This course will meet every Monday in August from 6 - 7:30 pm at the Swaner EcoCenter. Classes will take place both at the EcoCenter and on the Preserve.

Through the four weeks, we will learn ways to be fully aware and present in nature, allowing us to feel a sense of spaciousness and peace and recognize our interconnectedness with all living beings. Research has shown that this mindfulness and time in nature enhances mental clarity, creativity, focus, and attention to detail in addition to reducing stress and stress-related illness.

Each week, we will focus on a different element—Earth, Air, Water, and Fire—and explore how these elements can deepen our connection with all living things. By exploring the elements while incorporating attention, breath, and body practices, we can awaken our sensitivity to the environment and uncover valuable insights from nature itself.

No prior experience with mindfulness is necessary, as we will encourage each other to approach the practice with a "Beginner's Mind."

This course is designed for adults. Participants must be 16 years of age or older.

Rebecca Brenner, MA, is an author and mindfulness meditation teacher, speaker, and practitioner. She is the president and co-founder of Mindful. Summit County - a nonprofit focused on moving Mindfulness past self-care, into community care.
