Come join us for a day of bird watching in the beautiful Central Texas region!
About this Event

Get ready to learn about birding in Central Texas with birding expert Jane Tillman! We will keep our eyes and ears open for local birds as we learn how to use and what to look for in a pair of binoculars, and how to use the birding app Merlin. We will explore ways to attract birds to our neighborhoods by providing native plants, water, shelter and places to raise young. Jane is an active member of the Travis Audubon Society. She teaches backyard birding classes and gives talks about Central Texas birds and gardening for birds to garden clubs, neighborhood associations and libraries. She has a Best of Texas Backyard Wildlife Habitat. Jane is a Master Birder, an amateur naturalist, and teacher for the Native Plant Society of Texas Native Landscape Certification Program. This program is part of the Elisabet Ney Museum's Naturalists at the Ney Series!

Naturalists at the Ney Series

We are naturalists! The Elisabet Ney Museum grounds are home to a variety of animals and insects along with native grasses and forbs. Ney cared deeply about the environment she inhabited so much that she purposefully selected a wild and native space for her Austin studio, Formosa. Learn more about this unique historic landscape and entrench yourself in this environment with a new series of monthly events at the museum, Naturalists at the Ney. In this theme-based series of workshops, guided explorations, and art making activities held the first Saturday of each month, we will learn about the colorful uses of plants, the hidden relationships under our feet, and the treasures used to create botanical art in the grounds around Formosa. Be prepared to be outdoors in Ney’s wild landscape!
