About this Event
Natural or Live Edge Bowl Turning ClassIn this class, you will work with a “wet (not kiln dried wood)” bowl blank to create a bowl of your own design which uses the natural contour of the bark side of a log as the top rim edge of the bowl. You will learn about bowl gouges and how to sharpen them using a grinder and a jig. Sharpening the gouge is necessary to get the best result from the gouge which reduces the amount of sanding while making your bowl you will need to sharpen the gouge you’ll be using. You will learn the proper way to use the bowl gouge so as not to have a bowl that requires a lot of sanding prior to applying a finish to your bowl. You will also be shown how to use a scraper to use at the bottom of a bowl and a parting tool to create a tenon which is used with a four jaw chuck to hold the bowl when creating the inside of the bowl. All tools, bowl blanks and face shield are provided for the class but if you have your own, you’re welcome to bring them and use them in the class.
