As part of the Rags to Cultural Riches Makers Fair at Village Antiques & Art, join artist Kate McComas for a hands-on Natural Dye Workshop. Participants will learn to dye silk, linen, wool, and cotton using natural materials, including madder roots, cochineal, walnut hulls, and goldenrod. Each participant will leave with a complete set of sixteen 8x8 fabric samples, representing each type of fabric dyed in multiple colors.
About the Workshop
This workshop provides an immersive experience for fiber art enthusiasts of all levels. Sessions are offered twice on October 18, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, with a limit of 8 participants per session at $10 a person.
Kate will guide participants step-by-step through the natural dyeing process, sharing techniques, tips, and insights. Attendees will gain hands-on experience while creating one-of-a-kind fabric samples to take home.
About the Artist
Kate McComas has been creating fiber art since her teens, beginning with her first quilt on a treadle sewing machine. She earned a master’s degree in art with a specialization in weaving and has taught at Marshall University, Cedar Lakes Crafts, the Clay Center, and the Huntington Museum of Art. Her quilt designs with Cabin Creek Quilts were featured in Southern Living Magazine. Kate has worked with numerous arts organizations across West Virginia, including the WV Commission on the Arts, MountainMade Foundation, The Clay Center, Huntington Museum of Art, and Heritage Farm & Museum.
