Did you know that conventional bedding is made out of material that is very toxic to our health and the environment? This is particularly concerning because of our close proximity to our pillows and mattresses every single night. Even supposed "natural" pillows and mattresses being sold can still be laden with an array of chemicals and materials that are detrimental to our health while still being marketed as "green". Fortunately, it is very simple and easy to make your own! Yes, you can easily make your own mattress of any size out of local plants for only a few dollars. The most commonly asked question I get asked when I tell people they can make their own mattress out of plants is: "...but is it comfortable"? The answer is a resounding YES! Not only is a homemade mattress cost effective and infinitely better for your health and the planet, but you will get the best sleep of your life. In this class we will discuss the different materials that can be used for natural bedding and even test out how they feel. By the end of this class you will be well on your way to making your own mattress!
This is a donation-based class. Donations are welcomed upon attendance via Venmo, cash or Zelle but are by no means necessary.
It is very important to know how to sew if you are wanting to make your own mattress. I highly recommend signing up for my free hand sewing class on Monday, May 6 if would like to learn. This will help you better prepare for the natural bedding class.
