NATURA, 26 July - 31 August, 10am - 5pmNATURA showcases a rare collection of beautifully illustrated posters from the 1960s to early 1980s, originally used to teach about nature and science in Soviet-era classrooms. Sourced in Ukraine, the works offer a vivid celebration of the natural world, with subjects ranging from minerals to flora and fauna and the changing seasons.
The exhibition is presented by Margate-based Parapapa, a project founded by Ukrainian Anna Laznya, who carefully sources each item. Each piece will be available for sale, with proceeds going towards both community efforts in Ukraine and The Margate Caves Community Education Trust. Entry to the exhibition above ground is free. Standard prices apply to explore the Caves underground.
The exhibition marks the launch of the Margaret Bryan Gallery, a space named after one of Britain’s pioneering women in science education, who lived on the Caves site in the 18th Century. Margaret ran a boarding school here for young women, teaching astronomy and the sciences, a radical pursuit at the time. Our gallery will continue in the spirit of providing inspiration in an accessible space.
