Raukatauri' is a unique retelling of pūrākau, combining Taonga Pūoro performance and live sand art (Toi Onepu) with experimental digital art. The result is a kind of 'Living Painting' - an artwork that comes to life. Our concept aims to introduce Taonga Pūoro and pūrākau to a broader audience both nationally and globally via film festivals (such as Maoriland), local exhibition spaces and online, in the hopes of promoting a deeper appreciation for Māori culture with the help of visually compelling video art. This Kaupapa from the beginning to the end was a true and equal collaboration between all three artists involved, giving us all an opportunity to practice our roles as Tangata Whenua & Tangata Tiriti honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Driving through the Mad Max-esque haze, her thoughts drift back to Lijiang, her ancestral hometown in China, where her maternal Nakhi tribe celebrates Fire as a divine natural force every summer.
