Looking forward to the Spring gardening season? Join us for a mood-brightening event about gardening with native plants. First, we will watch an inspiring short video by the renowned ecologist, author, and co-founder of the “Homegrown National Park” movement, Dr. Doug Tallamy. Then we will welcome two local experts, Barbara Warren and Steph Dilllon, to talk in-person about how to put these ideas to work in your own North Shore backyard. From spotting invasive species and prepping your yard, to finding the best native plants to support wildlife, biodiversity, and beauty in your garden, there will be tips and takeaways for gardeners of all levels. Come with your questions for a Q+A to follow.
Barbara Warren served as Executive Director of Salem Sound Coastwatch for twenty years and is currently Principal at Barbara Warren Environmental Consulting. She began the Greenscapes North Shore Coalition in 2007 to share environmentally friendly landscape practices to the residents of the North Shore, such as removing invasive plants, reducing lawn size, and planting natives. She spearheaded the living shoreline at Collins Cove and numerous rain gardens across Salem.
Steph Dillon is the owner of North Shore Natives, a small plant nursery in Beverly, Massachusetts, growing over 80 species of New England native flora. Steph has worked in all aspects of the horticultural industry from turf grass care to pollinator garden designs.
