Join us for an engaging workshop where you'll learn about biodiversity, native plants & how to enhance your garden!
About this Event

Nature needs your help and it’s as simple as using native plants in your garden! Biodiversity, the variety of all living things necessary to sustain life, is declining because of climate change, habitat loss from increasing urbanization and agricultural practices. Come understand the importance of native plants, how to grow them to welcome pollinators and enhance the beauty of your garden.

Session 1: Collecting Native Seed

Discover a simple and rewarding way to grow your garden while supporting plant diversity! Join us for an engaging workshop on ethical seed collecting, where you’ll learn best practices for gathering and caring for seeds. We’ll head out into the Toronto Botanical Garden for a guided session collecting a limited amount of seed, then return indoors to explore seed cleaning and storage techniques. You will keep the seed you collect. To help you get started, the Toronto Master Gardeners will also share a limited selection of seeds collected earlier in the year.

Saturday, October 25 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM.

Registration: Public $20, TBG Members $15 (plus applicable taxes and fees)

Upcoming sessions:

Session 2: Native Plant Series: Winter Sowing - Saturday, January 10, 2026

Session 3: Native Plant Series: Potting Up Seedlings and Plant Exchange - Saturday, June 6, 2026
