About the Book:
This voice-driven story touches on grief, complex mother/daughter relationships, Native American issues, and modern mixed-race identity struggles. The main character, Mary-Claire, a “half-breed” born to a White father and Native American mother, reflects on her identity growing up on the Rez and how her mother’s addiction shaped their volatile life below the poverty line. As she prepares for the burial ceremonies for her mother, she seeks to break the cycle of trauma.
With key themes surrounding grief and loss, Native American history and contemporary issues, mental health advocacy, and mixed-race identity, this book offers a compelling narrative for readers of all backgrounds.
Key Discussion Points:
• Grief & Loss of a Parent
• Historical & Contemporary Native Issues
• Mental Health Advocacy
• Mixed-Race Identity
This is a free event open to the public, and we encourage readers to join us in what promises to be another meaningful conversation. Don’t miss this chance to engage directly with the author and your community! 🌿
