Join staff and volunteers for a celebration of Indigenous culture. Observe demonstrations and learn about the Indigenous Peoples that lived in Southeast Texas. The festival takes place in the lawn near the main stage AND at the replica Akokisa Village on Redbud Hill, which is a one mile hike (round trip) on a gravel trail. The trail to Redbud Hill is open from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. It will close to ensure participants have time to complete it - so arrive early! Chikawa Aztec Dancers perform at 11:30 a.m. on the main stage.
Starbucks will offer complementary coffee & tea, so bring a reusable cup to enjoy.
All ages are welcome; this program is great for Scouts and large groups of friends. NO reservations required.
(Please note - no pets are allowed in festival areas)
Accessibility: Our stage is accessible from the main parking lot, but there is a grassy surface to access the seats. The ground is natural and at times uneven. The Akokisa Village is a 1/2-mile hike on a gravel trail, one-way. We suggest wagons & strollers for younger audiences. Remember your reusable water bottle and tennis shoes.
