Ever wanted to do the National THree Peaks but don't fancy cramming it into 24 hours?
Our National Three Peaks in Three Days event will see us climb the 3 highest peaks in the UK: Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa (Wales), Scafell Pike (England), and Ben Nevis (Scotland) consecutively, over a long weekend.
Transport (minibus) on Thursday 25th October will take us from Manchester / East Lancashire at approx 5:30pm, heading to Snowdonia (Eryri) to start our long weekend. We will have a social evening with a shared meal and icebreakers at the hostel after our arrival, before settling down for a good night’s sleep!
We begin walking on Friday 26th with Snowdon (Yr Wydffa), taking the scenic Miner’s Path and Pyg Track for our ascent / descent, respectively. This is approx. 12 km / 7.5 miles. On descending we'll get back into the minibus and head to the Lake District, to our overnight accommodation.
We’ll have an early start to climb our second mountain, Scafell Pike via the corridor route from Seathwaite, on Saturday 26th October. This route is 15km / 9 miles with over 1000m / 3000ft climb. The afternoon will see us take our onward travel to Fort William. Here, we will stay overnight at the fabulous Glen Nevis Youth Hostel at the foot of Ben Nevis.
After another early breakfast on Sunday 27th, we will begin our final climb; Ben Nevis , before returning to Manchester that evening (arrival approx. 11pm). Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK stands at 1345m / 4413 ft in height. We'll take the mountain path to the summit and back, with a total final walk of around 13.5km / 8.5 miles.
Despite this not having the time restraints of the 24-hour National Three Peak challenge, it is still a tough event for which you will need to have a good level of fitness. In order to complete each walk and get to our hostels in time for check in, we will be heading out early each day and will need to complete Snowdon in approx. 6 hours, Scafell Pike in 7 hours and Ben Nevis in 7 hours. Please also note there is a considerable amount of travel time each day.
As with all Abigail's Trails hikes, this challenge will be a small-group event, led by qualified mountain leaders who are empathetic and supportive. We will also have fantastic support drivers with us all the way. We’ll do everything we can to make sure this weekend is as enjoyable and sociable as you would like!
The event fee (£602) includes:
professional event organisation;
transport from Manchester or East Lancashire onwards to the start of the event, between each peak, and back to Manchester (East Lancs.) after;
our services (guiding on all 3 peaks by experienced mountain leaders with Outdoor First Aid qualifications / kit);
public liability insurance;
dorm-style accommodation in YHA hostels for 3 nights;
breakfast of porridge, pastries and fruit each day;
unlimited hot drinks while in the hostels;
an evening meal on the first night (Thursday).
You will need to: arrange transport to the pick-up location in Manchester or East Lancashire; evening meals for Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening; lunches and beverages for each day; personal insurance (for cancellation, accident, health, emergency evacuation and loss, theft of or damage to baggage and personal effects); and personal equipment (e.g. walking boots, rucksack, waterproof jacket and trousers, torch, hat and gloves).Packed lunches for each day can be provided by each hostel at an additional cost.
On booking you will receive full itinerary, kit list, training plan and much more communication about the event. We also offer a Challenge Trail Training course for those who want help getting fit for the event, and plenty advice about kit! If you are wanting to fundraise for a charity while taking part in this challenge, we can also help you do that.
We ask for a non-refundable £120 deposit on booking. The full amount will be invoiced 8 weeks before the event and must be paid in full 6 weeks before we leave for Snowdonia. Please email [email protected] if you would like to arrange payment in monthly instalments, instead.
