One of the oldest living languages of the world is Tamil and Tamils are the proud inheritors of a timeless heritage, dating back over two millennia. It is estimated approximately more than 80 million Tamils live around the globe and more than three hundred thousand Tamils live in Britain.

Tamils began to migrate to the United Kingdom in the 1940s and since then, British Tamils have made significant contributions to the prosperity and cultural diversity of this great nation, despite notable obstacles. The diaspora are of significant importance for the preservation and protection of the proud Tamil Heritage.

January is a month of significance for Tamils all around the world as important Tamil festivals such as harvest day also known as “Pongal” fall in this month. Since January 2020, Tamils living in the UK have initiated commendable efforts to proclaim the Month of January as ‘Tamil Heritage Month’.

Over the years, Tamil Heritage Society UK has built upon this by working alongside the Tamil community in successfully hosting multiple events, exhibitions, performances, and educational initiatives during Tamil Heritage Month. Our THM signature event will mark the commencement of a month-long series of celebrations.
